Guns & Armour

Here is a quick and dirty guide to the damage of modern firearms.

Medium Pistol Damage - 6K3
Rifle (3rd burst) - 7K4

You may use autofire to do 4K2 damage to anyone who fails to use active defence that round or is in cover. You need not roll to hit, it is they who have to dodge.

Armour halves the total of the damage roll. Also ballistic armour stops damage dice from bullets exploding.

Technology

Aircraft
Built by a mixture of kite theory, rune magic and luck, the first flying machine left the ground in Vendel in 1830. This technology has moved almost as quickly as computing. The jet engine was developed after the war with Eisen rocket technology. Runes are still sometimes part of the creation, but relied upon less. Nowadays most countries can make planes. But sailing or driving is still preferred. Distances are not so great as in our world. Vendel and Avalon keep large plane fleets, useful for the islands. But Montaigne, as the centre has the largest airports.

Atomic Weapons
A term of the Reich surrender was a worldwide ban on nuclear weapons. Ussura made it clear they would war on any nation found in possession of such a device. While all nations keep the knowledge, none have dared construct one.

Computers
Towards the end of the war, to break Eisen code the Avalon invented a calculus machine. Afterwards they had neither the time nor resources to carry on experiments. But scientists working for the remains of the Invisible College found the work and realised its import. They saw to it that every nation 'acquired' the knowledge. But it was the Eisen looking for a new thing to rebuild themselves with that embraced it. Their computers and later microelectronics became the standard to measure every other chip by. This has become the 'personal computer' of Theah. But recently Avalon has built a new machine that has become a major competitor under the monopoly. It is by a company called 'Peach'.

But the machines were still difficult to learn to program. That is until the Vendel wrote 'Portal'. Stealing some of the ideas from the Avalon Peach computers, they wrote new user interface software (the latest version is now called Portal 2000). Everyone writes for Portal software, knowing no one is running anything else. Avalon is keen to catch up though, being in the forefront of software innovation.
