Idunn Laars - Vendel 'it girl'

Idunn's Twenty Questions

1 - What country are you from?
Vendel, of course, I'm very proud of my family and my nation.

2 - How would you physically describe yourself?
Many a gentleman (and lady) has complimented me on my looks and my immaculate sense of fashion. My hair is blonde and my eyes are brown. My parents and relatives tell me that I take more after my grandmother than my mother, although my eye colour comes from my father's side of the family.

3 - Do you have any recurring mannerisms?
My first tutor tried to break my habit of wringing my hands when I get nervous, but she soon learned after my sisters and I applied glue to her cane.

4 - What is your main motivation?
Fun, wonder, love, exploration and being seen to be seen. Living the high life all around Théah and doing my bit to make it a better (and more fashionable) place.

5 - What is your greatest strength, and weakness?
Strength: A gift for fashion and elegance. Oh, and I'm a fairly good shot with the pistol, especially with the finely crafted Laars pistols.
Weaknesses: Hmm, tough one. Perhaps I judge other people too much by what they wear, after all – they could be wearing 'camouflage'.

6 - What are your most and least favourite things?
Favourite: Shopping, without a doubt. Oh, also going to parties in foreign countries hosted by nobility and royalty. Did I mention that I'd been to the Emperor of Montaigne's masked ball? We were named 'Knights of Music' which was nice.
Least Favourite: Muddy clothing or anything covered in mud for that matter. I have no idea how some people cope with living in muddy surroundings all the time. Perhaps they have no choice, but I'm confident that a Vendel architect or scientist will soon solve this problem.

7 - What is your psychology?
Fun! I look at world in terms of what is fun and what is not fun. Oh and also what is fashionable. In the past I've been accused of being shallow, but why get upset about the things in life that you cannot change?

8 - What is your single greatest fear?
Mud, drowning in mud. *shudder* Ugh, even thinking about it makes me want to take a bath. Hmm, I could try on that new dress after my bath. Oh, best finish this interview first. Carry on, please.

9- What are your highest ambitions, and greatest love?
My ambition is to find a wonderful husband, have lots of healthy children and found a great business empire. I'd also like dedicate my time to helping those who have been struck by misfortune such as war widows, orphans etc.

10 - What is your opinion of your country?
It's the best place in the whole of Théah, if only we could live side by side with the Vesten.
The Avalon live in an enchanted place, but I have glimpsed the darkness hidden beneath. The Montaigne have great fashion and wine, but the price that they enjoy it at is too high. The Castillians are probably my second favourite people, but they are suffering in the war. The Eisen care too much about their armouries and not their families. The Vodacce are a polarised society that is too old to change and the Ussurans' currency is chickens – what more need I say?

11 - Do you have any prejudices?
I dislike people who are dishonest or pretend to be something that they are not. Although experience has recently shown me that sometimes there is a very good reason for it. Oh, I don't much like Vodacce men (with one exception).

12 - Where do your loyalties lie?
To the latest trends in fashion. No, seriously, they lie with my family my people and of course my friends.

13 - Are you in love, betrothed or even married?
Yes. I can't answer this right now. No, but I hope that this will change in the very near future. *big happy grin*

14 - What is your family like?
They're wonderful, I couldn't ask for better parents of siblings. Being the middle daughter of seven can be quite difficult sometimes, but we all love each and get on very well. My mother runs the family business and my father is often away on business trips. So the tutors and servants who raised us form our extended family – together with my numerous cousins!

15 - How would your parents describe you?
To quote them recently: "She's a wonderful girl, full of life. If only she could start taking it a bit more seriously."

16 - Are you a gentleman/woman?
But of course!

17 - How religious are you, and which church sect do you follow?
Not that religious, but as an Objectionist I feel that I've got a special relationship with Theus. My faith is not as staunch as my mothers. I would consider getting married in a Vaticine church if that is what my future husband wanted.

18 - Are you a member of a guild, gentleman's club or secret society?
I am member of the Merchants guild, patron of the Knights of the Rose and Cross, as well as patron of the Explorer's Society. Secret Society? No. There was one in Montaigne that had red kerchiefs as identification symbols, but they were blown up in a Montaigne cemetery by yours truly using the finest Laars pistols.

19 - What do you think of sorcery?
It's OK, but it makes me feel ill sometimes. Especially when someone uses Porté, it gives me a queasy feeling. One day science will be advanced enough that we will not need sorcery any more, at least I hope so.

20 - What advice do you need to hear?
It's time to grow up and start behaving responsibly. Also, you don't need to hide your emotions all the time and then spend the whole night crying. There's more to life than fun, fashion and feeling the centre of attention. Oh, and mud baths are good for your skin.
